Shenyang Sports Park was built on the original site of Shenyang People’s Stadium. It was officially put into use and opened to the public in May 2003, becoming a park integrating sports, leisure and shopping.
The overall shape of Shenyang Sports Park is roughly a trapezoid. It is separated from Zhongshan Park by only a not-too-wide Nansan Road. Coming out of the south gate of Zhongshan Park, you can almost directly enter the north gate of Sports Park. The Sports Park covers an area of 39,600 square meters, with a green area of 24,000 square meters and can be entered from all four surrounding streets.
Shenyang Sports Park is mainly divided into four areas: a leisure area, a greening area, a sports equipment fitness area and a business area. In the center of Shenyang Sports Park is a sunken square. When overlooking, the central square and the surrounding greening areas are all circular. The “greening area” on the side close to Nanjing South Street is relatively high, with a large steel structure pavilion and a very special tree array maze. Standing inside the pavilion and the tree array maze, you can watch people playing basketball on the central square. The central square and the “greening area” seemingly form a natural stadium.
In the park, more than 8,000 various trees can be seen, including Chinese pine, Chinese white spruce, dragon spruce, ginkgo, Chinese scholar tree, honey locust, maple, Populus bolleana, hawthorn, etc. The opening hours are subject to the opening conditions on the day.
